The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) is Hong Kong's only dedicated higher education institution for the performing arts. Established in 1984 and located in Wan Chai, Hong Kong Island, the Academy offers professional diploma, advanced diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate programmes across six schools, with the School of Music being its most internationally recognised faculty.
In the 2026 QS World University Rankings by Subject (Performing Arts), HKAPA achieved a remarkable 10th place globally and 1st in Asia, placing it firmly among the world's elite performing arts institutions. This ranking reflects the Academy's exceptional standards in music education, performance training, and its strong connections to the professional arts world.
The Academy's School of Music provides comprehensive training in Western classical music, Chinese music, and contemporary genres. Students benefit from world-class facilities, regular performance opportunities, and access to visiting faculty from leading international conservatoires. The ABRSM — the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music — provides annual scholarships to outstanding students at HKAPA's School of Music, recognising exceptional musical talent.
Hong Kong pianist Tin-Pui Tang studied at HKAPA under a full scholarship provided by ABRSM, graduating with a Bachelor of Music in 2018. Upon graduation, he was inducted to the prestigious Dean's List in recognition of his outstanding academic and artistic performance — an honour reserved for the top graduating students of each cohort.
